A mix of 3rd and 4th XI players combined to play out an entertaining "friendly" against Neston. The hosts took the lead through a thunderous shot from John McMullen. Bebington then went 2-0 up midway through the first half, when new 3rd XI Captain Jon Griffiths tapped home from close range. Bebington were playing some nice hockey and did not look like a team just thrown together for this game. The 2nd half started brightly for the hosts who went 3-0 up with a decent strike from Nick Healing. The game was not without a bit of friction however, when Pete Newton tangled with the Neston keeper, in which another Neston player ran over to get involved in matters! Both the outfield Neston player and Newton being carded and sin binned. Bebington continued to push for more goals and won a penalty corner, with Tom Whittaker subsequently hitting home to make it 4-0. Neston did manage a very late consolation, after a lack of concentration in defence, Bebington conceded a soft goal right at the death. Overall, a decent display from Bebington with what was a "scratch" team really.
The real stuff starts next week when Bebington 3rd XI face Bebington 4th XI at The Oval !
